Last week I spent 6 nights staying at the Mercure Welcome. Got a good deal for the Beer & Brewer Expo special of $99 per night. (even though I hear of someone gettign $89 on Wotif a couple of weeks out)

The first night and room was a shocker. 1121 (don't stay in room 21 on any floor in this hotel, unless you can sleep through anything) the head board of the bed is right against the elevator shaft, so you can hear each time the lift goes up and down and the BING! when it arrives at the floor.

I complained in the morning. They asked what room I was in, and they knew straight away it was a 21. Immediately they requested that 248 be freed up. They said they would take care of it. Just zip up my bags and they moved them during the day while I was out. When I got back that evening I had been moved to possibly the quietest room in the hotel, had a card apoligizing and a bottle of wine waiting on my bed.

Well done these people.

But really expecting a guest who is staying 6 nights to put up with a room 21, I was surprised. Well maybe thats what you get for $99

Overall - once I had a nice room, at a nice price, the location of this hotel is awesomely central to walk pretty much anywhere in the CDB. Probably stay again at this price. Very helpful friendly staff.
